I have been a freelance writer and editor for more than 25 years. In addition, I have worked as awards facilitator at the University of Saskatchewan, executive director of the Writers Guild of Alberta, and editor in chief at Lone Pine Publishing.
My most recent book is Write an Effective Funding Application: A Guide for Researchers and Scholars (The Johns Hopkins University Press). I have also published two novels — The Woman Upstairs (NeWest Press) and Bitters (NeWest) — and a collection of short stories (Cool, River Books).
I have won a Writers Guild of Alberta Award for Excellence in Writing, and my stories have been short-listed for the CBC/Saturday Night Fiction Competition and the Journey Prize. My short fiction and non-fiction has appeared in numerous periodicals and journals both in print and on-line, including The Rumpus (humor) and Geist (flash fiction).
I live in Toronto (but do not fear: I am tri-lingual in English and can therefore also edit American and British writing), where I write, blog, and work as an editor, writing consultant, and leader of workshops on effective grant-writing for academics.
